Commercial gas prices soar by Rs. 103 during festive season in Kolkata

Commercial gas prices in Kolkata have witnessed a notable increase during the festive season, with the 19 kg cylinder's price rising by Rs. 103. The new rate for commercial gas cylinders, commonly used in hotels and restaurants, now stands at Rs. 1943, taking effect from midnight. This marks the second price hike in recent times, with the previous increase occurring on the 1st of the previous month when the price per cylinder was Rs. 1839.

Comparatively, the new price of commercial gas in the capital, Delhi, is Rs. 1833. In Kolkata, the price of commercial gas cylinders has risen from Rs. 1839 to Rs. 1943, while in Mumbai, the 19 kg commercial LPG gas cylinder price has reached Rs. 1785, and in Chennai, it now costs Rs. 1999.

In August of this year, cooking gas prices were reduced by Rs. 200 for the general public after approximately 16 months. The central government implemented significant measures to alleviate the financial burden on the middle class due to rising market costs. This decision included a Rs. 200 subsidy on gas cylinders for the general public and an additional Rs. 200 subsidy under the Ujjwala project, totaling a Rs. 400 subsidy. Consequently, the price of a 14.2 kg cylinder used by the general public in Kolkata dropped from Rs. 1,129 to Rs. 929.
